Coming on February 9th at 2 p.m., look for a very interesting historical perspective by Peter Pike, Jr. as he presents discussions from his book California Bound, explaining how his family helped develop a section of our valley. The Pike family, led by Roy Pike, amassed a land holding of around 4,500 acres and with irrigation water from the nearby San Joaquin river, turned his land into the El Solyo Ranch. Hear how Pike’s dreams were realized through his innovations, ultimately providing around 700 jobs for Vernalis/Westley area residents, necessitating the ranch to have its own grocery store, blacksmith, and fire department. Later, Pike would encounter challenges he could not overcome and the ranch was subdivided. Join the audience to hear the history of this unique pioneer from the west side of our valley.
