Geri Lewis Tapped as First Executive Director

Geri G. Lewis isn’t just the new Executive Director of the McHenry Museum & Historical Society; she is the first person to hold that title in the history of the Historical Society. Lewis started her new position on June 1st and will be working to oversee the Historical Society that supports the museum and Curator Wayne Mathes. As the Executive Director of the Historical Society, her responsibilities will include establishing new and maintaining current relationships with Society members, sponsors and donors throughout all of Stanislaus County. Duties also include attending local service club meetings to raise awareness of the museum, grant writing, planning new Historical Society events at the museum, management of the Museum store and Society annual budget, and partnering with other local non profits in successful community projects.

Lewis stated that McHenry Museum sees over 8,000 visitors per year and her goal is to increase that number. “We have such a treasure in the museum,” she said, “with so much information and history that so many folks in the Stanislaus County area and throughout the Central Valley are unaware of we need to get them in and let them see what they are a part of and the history that made the Central Valley as great as it is.” Lewis is a Modesto native and has over 30 years experience in fundraising and fund development and has volunteered for many local nonprofits.
