EXHIBITS

The McHenry Museum features permanent exhibits showcasing the history of Modesto and Stanislaus County. Included are displays on the Yokuts (the first-known people to inhabit the greater San Joaquin Valley), local gold mining artifacts, the founding of Modesto by the railroad, the development of irrigation locally, contributions from agriculture, an antique general store, a recreated blacksmith shop with wood and square nails from a century-old house, a one-room school house setting, Modesto Police and Fire departments, a barbershop of days-gone-by, turn-of-the-century domestic life home furnishings, and a 1950s room.

Temporary exhibits change periodically, and feature community contributions of local artists and cultural history. The museum is decorated extensively for Christmas.
