Self-guided tours of the museum is encouraged for all visitors during the museum’s regular hours of operation. Docents are stationed at various locations in the museum and provide valuable information to ensure that each visitor has a high quality experience to the museum.

Did you know that the museum regularly conducts free, guided student tours for local area schools? Usually done for third grade students, field trips often take place in conjunction with same-day tours of the nearby McHenry Mansion. Does your local school take advantage of this remarkable local field trip opportunity?

No-cost docent-guided group tours of the McHenry Museum are led by by a trained docent, and are available by appointment. Group tours may be scheduled by calling the City of Modesto’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department at (209) 577-5344. Guided tours are limited to thirty (30) persons per docent guide. Tours are be led by trained docents who are part of the McHenry Museum & Historical Society. Larger groups can be scheduled to split into tours of thirty (30) or less, with part of the group touring the nearby McHenry Mansion (just a block away) and part of the group touring the McHenry Museum, with the groups visiting both locations in one outing.

An elevator is available from the south parking lot for those requiring assistance to reach the different levels of the museum.
